How to Cook Black Beans

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound black beans sorted
  • 1 onion quartered, optional
  • 4 cloves garlic crushed, optional
  • 2 bay leaves optional
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
 

To make black beans on the stove:

  • In a large pot, pour in dried black beans and cover with at least 4 inches of water. Add onion, garlic, and bay leaves if using.
  • Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until beans are tender, about 1 hour 30 minutes

To make black beans in an instant pot:

  • Pour beans into Instant Pot, cover with at least 4 inches of water. Add onion, garlic, and bay leaves if using.
  • Cover beans and set to Manual for 21 minutes. Allow beans to natural release.

To make black beans in a crock pot:

  • Pour beans into crock pot and cover with at water, about 5 1/2 cups. Add onion, garlic, and bay leaves if using.
  • Cover beans and cook on HIGH 3 1/2 hours, or LOW for 5 to 6 hours.
